The Refrigeration Process

  • With electricity as its power source, the refrigerant travels through a sealed network of refrigeration pipes connecting the indoor and outdoor units.
  • A motorized fan draws in warm air from inside the house through ducts.
  • The refrigerant is then moved from the outdoor compressor coil to the indoor evaporator coil, where it absorbs heat from the indoor air.
  • The cooled air is distributed through interconnected ducts to various vents across the house, effectively reducing the indoor temperature.
  • This refrigeration process repeats, ensuring a reliable method to maintain a comfortable cool environment.

Components of a Central AC System

A standard central air conditioning system is generally a two parts or split system, the components of the system are

  • The outdoor unit: This unit houses the condenser coil, compressor, electrical elements, and a fan.
  • Evaporator coil: Typically positioned atop the gas furnace within the residence.
  • Refrigerant: This substance, contained in the refrigeration lines, facilitates the transfer of heat into or out of indoor spaces. It circulates through both the indoor and outdoor units.
  • Ductwork: A network of materials such as metal, fiberboard, or flexible materials that act as air passages, distributing conditioned air to various areas within the home.
  • Thermostat or control system: A wall-mounted device responsible for monitoring and regulating the output of conditioned air.

  • Enhanced indoor comfort in warm weather: Central air conditioning effectively cools your home and reduces humidity levels.
  • Improved air quality: As the central air conditioning system extracts air from various rooms via return air ducts, it passes through an air filter. This filter captures airborne particles like dust and lint, while advanced filters can even remove microscopic pollutants. The filtered air is then distributed back to the rooms via air supply ductwork.
  • Reduced noise: The compressor-bearing unit of a central air conditioning system is typically situated outside the home. This placement significantly reduces the indoor noise generated during operation compared to standalone air conditioning units.
